Effect of Improving Knowledge about Laparoscope among Nurses Working in Zagazig and Tanta University Hospitals
Laparoscope is an intra-abdominal operation performed through a small subumbilical Incision and it provides an excellent visualization of the pelvic structure, permitting diagnosis of many gynecologic abnormalities and limited surgery. This study was conducted to determine the level of nurses' knowledge about laparoscope. The sample included 65 nurses, 35 from Zagazig university hospital and 30 from Tanta university hospital. The sample was selected from obstetric and gynecologic units. A questionnaire sheet was used to assess the nurses' knowledge about laparoscope which includes definition, indications, performance, advantages, disadvantages and complications. The tool was given to the nurses twice, before and after conducting the educational program. Scoring of nurses knowledge was decided, then the total scores of knowledge was calculated and classified. The results concluded that the majority of the nurses lacked knowledge in all study parameters before the educational program. The nurses knowledge showed a significant improvement after the educational program. It can be recommended that laparoscope should be included in nurses’ educational program, and training program should be done for nurses to improve their knowledge and performance.
