Abstract
Nowadays, improvement for the sake of cost-effectiveness, productivity and quality advancement is every nurses' business, that is why, they are concerned with work simplification, which focuses on changing work procedures. The aim of the study is to assess the current procedure used for administering medication using work simplification technique. The study was conducted in one medical unit and one surgical unit at Assiut University Hospital. The flow chart was employed to write down every single step of administration of medication procedure, besides the time allotted for each step. This process was repeated for 6 days in each unit. The main finding in the present study is that as a result of applying work simplification to administering medication, there was a significant [p < 0.05] reduction of 53.35% of nurses' time spent in the medical unit, and a similarly significant [p < 0.05] reduction of 57.28% in their time in the surgical unit.
